Microneedling: collagen is made, and that takes weeks

Collagen is not filled in, it is made — and that takes weeks.

· Hajar Atila, registered nurse

The Exosomes & PDRN kit from the celestetic laboratory.

Microneedling means creating controlled micro-perforations in the dermis. The skin repairs them, and in repairing them, it makes new collagen. Everything else follows from that, including the exact scope of what it gives.

What it treats well

  • Fine linesand early slackening, because they are a matter of dermal density.
  • Hollow acne scars, the ones called “boxcar” or “rolling”: the fibrosis pulling the skin downwards relaxes, and the floor of the hollow rises.
  • Skin textureand enlarged pores, by thickening the dermis that supports them.
  • The penetration of active ingredients, multiplied for the hours that follow — which is why what goes on straight afterwards counts as much as the needles.

Its scope

It works on the contour through collagen. A marked fold, a deep furrow or lost volume are matters for filling, which is a different procedure and a different hand.

On a patch, it works in a series, and sun protection remains the foundation.

The timeline, which surprises everyone

New collagen takes weeks to become visible. Production rises forfour to eight weeks, and the result is judged at the third session, not the first. It is long, and it is normal: the tissue is being made.

The usual rhythm: three to six sessions four to six weeks apart, then maintenance once or twice a year.

The days that follow

Clear redness on the day itself, like sunburn, easing off within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Skin a little rough and sensitive for two to three days. Bare skin on the first day, no sport or sauna for forty-eight hours, and a high sun protection for the two weeks that follow.

When to see a doctor

Microneedling calls for calm skin: an inflammatory acne flare, an active cold sore or a lesion of unknown nature are treated first. If you have already hadkeloids— scars that spread beyond and swell — say so beforehand: it is a contraindication, and it is discussed with a dermatologist.
