Hair loss: the normal cycle, and the threshold that should raise a flag
A hundred hairs a day, the cycle, and the signs that mean seeing a doctor.
· Hajar Atila, registered nurse

Losing hair is normal. Losing fifty to a hundred a day is normal too: every follicle follows a cycle, and at any moment about one hair in ten is in its shedding phase. What counts is how long the shedding lasts and what grows back behind it.
The two situations we see most
Reactive shedding. It comes two to three months after an event: childbirth, a high fever, a restrictive diet, iron deficiency, a shock, stopping contraception. It is diffuse, striking, and it stops on its own within three to six months. That two-month lag explains why people look for the cause at the wrong moment.
Progressive loss.It settles in and fixes on specific areas — the temples and the crown in men, a widening parting in women. The hairs that grow back are finer than the ones before. This is the one that calls for long-term management.
The sign that really counts
It is read somewhere other than in the brush. It isthe diameter of what grows back. A follicle that produces a finer hair with each cycle is miniaturising; that is the mechanism of progressive loss, and it is what we look at in the scalp analysis.
What the treatment covers
The work is on the follicles that are still alive. A miniaturised follicle can still be supported. That is why when you start counts for more than the protocol you choose: the earlier you begin, the more follicles there are left to support.
At the practice we work on the scalp: cleaning it, improving its circulation, and driving nourishing actives into it — with or without a needle depending on tolerance. Established baldness is a matter for transplant surgery, and that is another trade.
A blood test first of all
Iron and ferritin, thyroid, vitamin D: three simple tests that account for a large share of hair loss in women. An iron deficiency is corrected through the blood: the blood test therefore comes first. Ask your doctor for them before starting anything — it can save you a whole course of treatments.
When to see a doctor
Sudden heavy shedding, clear bald patches, redness, crusting, itching or pain in the scalp call for medical advice: these are different pictures, and some of them need early treatment to keep the hair.

The questions we are asked most often.
How much does it cost?
All prices are on the treatments page, from €55 to €175 depending on the treatment and its length. The number of sessions is decided during the history-taking, and you are given the priced protocol in writing at the end of the first appointment.
Does it hurt?
The DermoOne™ works without a needle: a jet of compressed air drives the serums in. Microneedling does use sterile micro-needles, with cool air for comfort. Both are explained to you beforehand.
What happens at the first appointment?
Twenty minutes of intake, and a written protocol at the end. Bring the list of your current treatments, creams and supplements included: it is what guides the choice of active ingredients.
How is the session paid for?
You request your slot online, the practice confirms it by email, and payment is made at the practice on the day of the session. To move an appointment, let us knowat least 24 hours in advance: the slot goes to someone else.
